Mr. Poots, the Titman

i have named this blog after a cement plant box outside of the dangriga garifuna museum. on the huge cement plant boxes outside of the building they are thanking donars, and apparently this is one of them. if ANYONE has ANY information on who Mr. Poots the Titman is, please, please comment immediately. i'll post a picture if i get one.

this is in hopkins. the little village to the south of ours. pay close attention to the writing on the wall...

the prize goes to the person who can think of the best watermelon pun. the only one i could come up with was...i can't decide which melon is more full of crap...help me.

OUR ROOMMATES!!!!!!!!!! here they are! little dillan, brian, and jazzy jr. RASHIDA! first week of school!

well, i had a very "beachy" birthday! thanks to everyone for the wishes! i missed you all dearly!

At last! We as "great americans" finally have the warm blessing of the presidency. This is at swearing in. They only sent their sincerest best and their regrets that they couldn't be there in person.

Well, i thought i would take a brief moment to fill everyone in on a few facts and fun of our new home. first off things are beginning to roll. todd is working hard as ever at the park, and i have started working at the schools. all the kids wear uniforms and they are so cute! there isn't really any separation of church and school which is fun and amusing. one of my schools is named the "Holy Ghost Primary School" and is right on the beach. in the morning they draw pictures of the beautiful things God has created for them. i'm working in 4 schools. one in our village and 3 in dangriga town. dangriga is the kind of town that you don't want to walk around eating an icecream cone, because you are afraid of what might get in it. but we like it.

SHOPPING: most of the clothes that you can buy in dangriga look like the 'bedazzler' gone wrong. not that the bedazzler was ever okay, but you know what i mean. i needed a new pair of jeans and couldn't find any in town, so the whole neighborhood colaborated b/c i "just couldn't go to the pageant dressed like that." i picked the most conservative of the 3 pairs they collected for me and still ended up looking like Shakira.."oh baby when you talk like that..."

EATING OUT: pretty much anything that you can get at anyone's house in all of belize is what most restaurants sell. Rice and beans. so if people want to go out, it's not because they are sick of what they eat, but simply sick of making it. we have found an awesome pizza place in hopkins that we limit to once a week.

well, i have more, but i'm already embarrassed by how long this is. but just one last thing... the joke's on who??? after reading the comments from the last blog, i am beginning to wonder who's laughing. could we take a tally of those who thought i actually was in a beauty contest??

i no like titman. TITman? so the writing on the wall was quite humorous slash sad, not sure which emotion struck me strongest.

I hope you had a "egg"cellent birthday ashy. no reason for the egg except for the obvious. and ashy is just to be extra annoying. (as if i need it)

i love the picture of you with the fanta. you look like a birthday girl gone wild (SPRING BREAK girls gone wild ahhhh!)

O K.

I'm so sorry. I'm not really feeling well.

this is getting annoyingly long. I laughed bundles at your last post though. and at you and todd trying to explain our jokes. and at the fact that when i saw that on my blog, i thought you had spelled todd's name wrong until right now at this moment typing it.

she's smart and stuff.... but she spells things wrong a lot.

Well, we were planning on coming down for a visit, but I just don't think you can enjoy a good giant watermelon without a couple of freshly-bought slaves.

I'm jealous everytime I read this blog! I'm excited to hear all of the everyday stories, which I bet will be twice as good seen through Todd's eyes.

Miss you guys,

Renaldo

A Belated Happy Birthday Ash! And like Reno, we are jealous when we look at your blog too! We basically have no life right now with school and work, so we will continue to live through you guys! Oh and by the way, we have started the countdown! We will see your bright smiling faces in 95 days!:)
Love you guys!

da na na na da na na na TITMAN! That would be a pretty good super hero. What kind of special powers does he have? Ponder on that and get back to me.

(what-r-mellons like that doing on a guy like Todd? Maybe he has the aforementioned super hero secret idenTITY)

Hey you two! I know Reno commented already but I thought I would send my love in blog comment form as well. According to the Yahoo search engine - Mr. Poots the Titman has either something to do with horse racing or pornography. Take your pick. I miss you guys!! Now we have something in common - we are both sworn into a government position - except you bring peace and I bring carnage and manditory democracy. Love you both and hope to come and pay you a visit soon!!

tit·man (tĭt'mən)
n. New England & Upstate New York.
A runt, especially one of a litter of pigs.
A small person.

This is a dictionary definition that I've found. Mr. Peck, the titman! But "Mr. Poots" is too much! I love it!

I think you should eat pizza twice a week.

Hi! You don't know me, but Todd might remember me. My name is Julie, I am Alina's friend... and I am honing in on your blog. I love it! I am super jealous of you in beautiful Belize eating delicioso arroz y frijoles, yummy. I served my mission in Guatemala and met a few people from Belize. We taught some Garifunas from Puerto Barrios... and I dream of going to Belize someday. The parents of a lady in our ward live in Belize. I'll have to find out what town they are in. Live it up and have fun!

With a name like Mr. Poots...who cares about the Titman. Here is the approximate recipe we used to make tortillas in PR.

2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
3/4 tsp baking powder
4 Tbs oil
2/3 cup warm water

Combine the flour, salt, and baking powder together. I would then combine the oil with the water and then mix it in with the flour mixture. Lightly kneed the whole thing for a few minutes then split it out into little balls (depending on how big you want your tortillas). Let the dough sit for a few minutes then roll then out into tortillas. The dough is easy to make...the rolling out is the annoying part. Also, I used olive oil...but considering you guys are in Central A...I would suggest lard. If you use lard you are supposed to rub it into the flour before adding the water. I am not sure what rubbing it in entails...but it sounds ominous.

Good luck...they are good...

It is good to see you guys are now best friends of the "administration"...when I get time I will send you a photo of my fishing trip with Cheney...

Todd, snowed today at Alta for the first time this season...but don't worry I will hold things down for you.

So many new insights to your Belize experience, I'm not sure which to respond to...the titman, the beauty pageant, the tight jeans, or Todd's new "Castaway" look. All he needs is a volleyball to talk to.

We're happy to hear your settling into your jobs. When will you get your own place...I bet you can't wait.

We talked this week about calling you soon. We'll get the calling card details from your mom and give you a ring.
Hugs,
Jenn

I can't believe you haven't been to the "raven's nest" yet? If you look back further, your blog shirt is on it.

Yes, please send me some gems from belize...

Nice Melon Titman! Too bad you don't have a cat to share it with. I've heard they can eat a whole one!
Toddy, they do have topos for Belize. They're about $20 online. Get some coordinates so I can find Mayflower park and we can create a map.
I'm sure this wont help the homesickness but Todd-it snowed in the mountains today!

Well guys, I usually at least try to think of clever things to say, but I just feel that everyone else has that part covered. I miss you guys.

Todd's got big melons???? Sorry I should be "pun"ished for that awful attempt.

Wow, I'm finally visiting your blog...and it is everything i've heard it is. Not much new here in Washington. Every day I get up, I go to work, I get off knees, then I live and then die like a warrior.

Hey Guys,
I hope you guys even notice my message...you'll have to scroll down pretty far to read this. Ash, I just wanted to tell you that I saw and talked to Glider today, and it was just so great. She made the comment that we are friends because we're both friends with you, but we can still hang out. I also saw Gilbert from a distance...i didn't get to talk with him. Damn. (oopsie...is it illegal to swear on your blog?)
